Finite vs Infinite Games
5 more thinklings about purpose — #2
Hi Friends,
I have some more thinklings for you. Thinklings are what I like to call those little seeds of ideas that are just possibly the start of something new. They’re not quite fully formed yet, but they seem to be full of potential and give you this inkling that maybe they will lead to a new mindset, or a totally new way of being in the world.
What will they spark for you?
Enjoy your daily dose of thinklings for the day.
Something about the packaging of this article from the Good Life Project set me up with low expectations, but there is actually bucket loads of meaty and helpful practical guidance here.
They share the concept of “life crafting”, the 8 P’s of finding what you should do with your life and the difference between playing finite and infinite games.
“If you can’t figure out your purpose, figure out your passion. For your passion will lead you right into your purpose.”
—Bishop T.D.Jakes
Simon Sinek gives a nice and succinct definition of this concept of finite vs infinite games in this YouTube video. Although he is focused on applying these concepts to the business world, you can imagine how different our lives would be depending on which of these models we use to find purpose.
Are we setting ourselves aims that have a fixed end point? What happens if/when we finally get there? Can I redefine my aims as something more open-ended and rewarding in the present that won’t simply run out when I succeed?
I think there is much more for us to explore here.
Is there a future me that will look back and wish that I didn’t rush through this?
